NEAR: EROS flyby this afternoon

Today's big news is that, since communications have been re-established,
NEAR will have a (non-capture) flyby of EROS this afternoon (23 Dec
@ ~18:43 UTC) at a distance of ~4100 km. The plan is to take more than
1000 photos during the pass.

The NEAR project is hoping for a second rendezvous orbit insertion in
May 2000 when NEAR again crosses the EROS orbit.

There are some details in a press release on the NEAR web site at URL
