Opinions on Windows 98 vary ... and here are mine. I tend to agree
with many of the reviewers that say it isn't worth the money to
upgrade: what you get for your 100 bucks should have been released
free, two years ago, as a fixpack. Many of the added features can be
downloaded free as updates for Win95.

However, my experience had been that it works reasonably well. Better
than 95 in some cases, and there is a modest performance improvement on
some platforms due to the added MMX support and inproved drive caching
and optimization. The downside is that it does have a larger memory
footprint. It also tends to install all sorts of little goodies that
Microsoft thinks are a good idea but only serve to annoy me, and the
active desktop is almost like learning a whole new user interface.
Power users may still find the user interface to be condescending.
Installation can either be trouble-free or fraught with problems, and
you have know way of knowing how yours will go. The uninstall failed
on the first machine that I tried it on.

IMHO, if you've got the drive space and the memory, and the money is
burning a hole in your pocket, go for it. Otherwise, stick with 95 and
go download a bunch of stuff from Microsoft.

Just my opinion, standard disclaimers apply. I prefer OS/2 Warp
anyway....
