Thank you for your comments.  You mentioned listening to the amateur users
and the marketplace, Paul Willmott VP9MU has posted a very nice list of
"user/programmer requirements" that is a good starting point.  .

Putting my professional consulting hat on for a second, Yaesu could easily
spend many $$ for consulting research that would likely return a list
similar to the one that Paul has provided "gratis".
