RE: Iridium flash

An Iridium flare occurs when an antenna on one of the satellites aligns
correctly between your location and the sun, given the right circumstances
they can be VERY bright.

For lots of information on Iridium flares.
http://www.satellite.eu.org/sat/vsohp/iridium.html
Info on general satellite observation at
http://www.satellite.eu.org/sat/vsohp/satintro.html

To predict the flares you need the Iridflar program available on the above
site

The best place for keps for these sats is
http:// www.wingar.demon.co.uk/satevo/index.htm

alternatively visit the following site for online predictions
http://www.gsoc.dlr.de/satvis/

there is a news group for satellite observations
sci.astro.satellite.visual-observe

Also there is a listserver for observations and general mail about visible
satellites. Information about this at
http://www.satellite.eu.org/sat/seesat/seesatindex.html

Hope the above helps all who have recently commented on Iridium Flares
