Sorry in advance for the non-satellite bandwidth....
I'm trying to repair a Kenwood TS-430S for a friend who is seriously
ill, so he will have something to help him pass the time. I replaced
two electrolytics next to the 5v regulator that had gone bad, causing
the regulator to oscillate, and the rig seemed to work OK for a while.
Now it seems totally brain-dead, it powers up with a single 0 in the
digital display and all of the front panel controls that are CPU-read
do nothing. Has anyone ever seen this problem, and can give me an idea
of what to look at? I should mention that the radio looks like it has
had a LOT of use, and was in a heavy smoker environment.
Please reply by private mail only, so as not to clutter the list.
Thanks in advance for any help...
