Norman, you should not have to use an amplifier to operate through the
digital satellites. I operate with a TS-790 "barefoot'.  What sat's are you
using and are you seeing any data coming from the satellite. 9.6 k sat's
require a mod of the radio. There are mod's for the DSP unit to enhance it's
performance but it will operate off the self just fine. 73 John, KE3SU
