Sorry for dual post again, but hopefully this will be the last before
tomorrows test and answers many FAQ's

1) Anyone with a packet TNC can participate on 145.985 between 1455z and
1651z on 10 Mar 1988.  Passes favor USA where most APRS activity is, but
other areas are:
                     1455-1515z USA (poor in SoCal)
                     1535-1540z So Africa (low pass to south)
                     1555-1610z W. Australia
                     1615-1620z Japan (low SE pass)
                     1630-1650z USA (poor for Maine)
                     1655-1705z Brazil
                     1715-1720z S. Africa
                     1745-1800z Japan

I think it will be OK for Brazil, S.Africa and Japan to continue the
experiment past the published 1651z stop time through the end of that
orbit to 1800z, as the published 1651z was an LOS for the USA.

2)  APRS stations with APRSdos should set C-F-FADE to 0 or toggle it off
so that grid-square stations without time stamps are not faded to dark
gray. Other possible settings are C-F-OTHER so that you can see ANY UI
packet, not just APRS packets.  ALso be sure you have CONTROLS-LOG ON and
properly exit the program to have all files saved.

3)  Stations with out APRS, be sure to set  your UNPROTO to:
UNPROTO GGGGGG VIA R0MIR and set your BText to ]$[comment where the $ can
be any of the previoiusly announced APRS ICON characters and comment can
be anything *brief*...  GGGGGG is your 6 digit gridsquare. Make up the
final GG if you dont know them.

4)  Since APRS turns MCOM off, APRS users will not see the usual CONNECT
REQUESTS, and BUSY packets frequent on MIR.  If you feel like you must log
EVERYPACKET, be sure to run a separate rig and dumb terminal capture
program on another TNC with MCOM ON.

5)  APRS Mic-Encoder mobile stations can use the Mic-E with NO
reprogramming by selecting their path switch to a single WIDE digipeat.
A single Kerchunk should get you plotted via MIR on 145.985.

6)  Be sure your rig does not have its transmit audio gain too high.  It
should definately sound "soft".  This is due to the +/- 3 KHz doppler
making 5KHz deviated rigs splatter except during the 30 seconds only
overhead.  If you want to improve your chances, back down on the audio to
3KHz deviation..

7)  We will have 3 stations digipeating live MIR posits, so  you should
see MIR moving on your maps.  Each of these stations will be uplinking
MIR-6 from Calif, MIR-8 from Michigan, and MIR-3 from Maryland.  You will
also see the R0MIR posit at 3822.00N and 12038.00 whenever MIR beacons its
pre-canned fixed position report (no matter where it is).

INTERNET:   THere are MANY APRS internet sites that provide LIVE feeds.
If you have a browser,  point to www.aprs.net.  This uses javAPRS to
run your display.   Kinda slow, but it works.  If you have any of the
INTERNET capable versions of APRS, then TCPIP to www.aprs.net and you
will have full send/receive APRS interraction with everyone in the
whole USA...   If you have neither, but have plain ole TELNET access,
then TELNET to www.aprs.net port 23 and you will see the steady stream
of packets from everyone in the country.  If port 23 doesnt work, try
port 10151.  THe 10151 port dumps about the last 1000 packets heard to
fill you in on the last 24 hours of activity...

There is also http://www.aprs.net/mirex.html which will filter out ONLY
the MIR packets and show you only what comes via MIR...

This is only a test.  Hope we remembered everything...
