AMSAT-NA Microsat Photo Index (text)Here are the descriptions of some photos from the 1989/1990 construction and launch of the AMSAT-NA Microsats. All photos courtesy Harold Price, NK6K. File sizes are 80k to 120k. Photos may be reproduced with proper credit. 1.Microsat CPU stack, three boards, two flight interconnect cables, one test cable. (NK6K photo) 2.Paul Williamson, KB5MU, checks the art work. 3.Left to right, Tom Lafleur, KA6IQA; Paul Williamson, KB5MU; and Franklin Antonio, N6NKF are hot on the trail of a bug. 4.The Microsat CPU's bank switched memory board. This was Amsat's first major use of surface mount flight components. 5.The Weber State Attic Module (primarily the imager) meets the Microsat CPU for the first time on a test bench at Qualcomm. Qualcomm loaned lab space for several weeks during the CPU checkout. 6.Tom Lafleur, KA6IQA works on the CPU board, using a microscope. 7.Jose Machao, LU7JCN (left), and Jeff Zerr work on one of the Microsats after it has been mounted on the Ariane Structure for Auxiliary Payloads (ASAP) platform. The ASAP is a flat plate that goes around the adapter between the top of the third stage and bottom of the primary payload. This photo was taken at the satellite integration facility at the launch site in Kourou, French Guiana. 8.Close-up of the Microsat attach fitting. 9.Junior de Castro, PY2BJO (in white) helps lift DOVE (DO-17) into position on the ASAP. 10. Watching the launch at NK6K's house. We're participating in the Amsat Launch Information News Service teleconference bridge, and watching the Arianespace video feed relayed by a local ham on a 1.2 GHz ATV repeater.
