AMSAT-NA Microsats - Participants

1994 Introduction The list below was written about 11 months after the launch of the AMSAT Microsats. It was complete at the time, but it doesn't include the large number of people who have become part of the Microsat team over the last several years, such as the DOVE recovery group, and the current spacecraft operations group. It doesn't make note of continuing major contributions, such as the UoSAT team's continued support of the common protocol and file server code. If anyone would like to update the list, please forward comments to nk6k@amsat.org

------------------------------------------------------------
rev 1 11/4/90

This is the first bulletin file loaded to AO-16 and then broadcast.

This file is meant to show the general user community just how
many people are involved in designing, building, and maintaining
an amateur radio spacecraft.

This file is by no means complete. If you have information to
add to it, please forward it to NK6K via UOSAT/MICROSAT, telemail
(HPRICE), or CIS (71635,1174). I apologize to those who have
been left out of this version of the file. We attempted to find
the callsign of all hams who participated, but some of the people
listed without calls are hams. There were many people who helped
out who weren't hams, however.

Most of the people below worked directly for AMSAT. Some worked
for organizations that contributed equipment or services to
AMSAT. Some of the Arianespace people are mentioned below.
While not formal members of the Microsat team, the microsats
could not have been launched without their active support of the
concept of launching small, auxiliary spacecraft on
Ariane.

All listings are alphabetical. Some contributions were large,
others were small, but all were critical to the project.

This file is a collaborative effort. Major contributors include
Weber State, Jeff Zerr, Greg Hine, and Jeff Shields.

Wives
-----

This project required extended travel by many participants, to
Boulder and elsewhere. Some traveled weekends, some went for
weeks at a time, those who traveled to thermal vac took a week
and a half, the Kourou trip was two to three weeks, pre-and post
thermal vac prep was one to two weeks. Some microsat builders
were away from home for a total of more than 45 days in 1988-
1989, including 14-21 consecutive days. Many in the Boulder
area, and at other centers, while still 'at home', were gone
every night for weeks at a time.

Therefore, it is a good idea to acknowledge pain and suffering
and moral support from wives and family. Without the major
participants being able to receive the ok for TDY, the microsats
would never have been built.
