Detailed Description

The European Student Earth Orbiter is a “hands on project” from the ESA Education Office. Current details may be found at http://esamultimedia.esa.int/SPECIALS/Education/SEM4DLPR4CF_0.html
The satellite is being designed and constructed by students from 13 universities together with members of AMSAT-UK. The project is managed by Carlo Gavazzi Spa. based in Milan Italy http://www.cgspace.it

ESEO will be completed in 2011 and is planned for a launch into LEO in 2012. It has a primary communications system using transmit and receive frequencies in the commercial space allocation at 2 / 2.2GHz.

The secondary system, provided by AMSAT-UK, is capable of sending telemetry and data from the students’ science experiments back to Earth using 38k4 FSK with FEC.

The spacecraft is 3 axis stabilized and carries payloads including a camera, equipment for measuring radiation and plasma and a star tracker.

Spacecraft Operations.
Following the successful commissioning of ESEO, the spacecraft will carry out the students’ experiments. When they are complete, the AMSAT system will be reconfigured by ground command to provide a U/S and U/V linear SDX transponder which also incorporates a traditional analogue backup. A C Band beacon on 5840 MHz is also included. Further details will be released as the project progresses.
