2008 Dayton Booth & Activities

Thursday 15 May 2008

Thursday morning there will be a group that sets up the booth for AMSAT at Hamvention. If you are interested in being a volunteer please contact Gould Smith at wa4sxm@amsat.org. Gould will also be taking names for those who wish to work in the booth during Hamvention.

The Eighth Annual AMSAT 'Pizza 'n Suds' party will be held again this year at Marion's Piazza at 1320 North Fairfield Rd. The party will begin at 6:30 PM and go until the crowd disappears. Individuals may order their food from the menu and drinks (beer, wine, sodas and iced tea) are available at the bar. Directions and coordinates are listed on the directions page.

The party is open to all hams that are interested in amateur satellites. Come on in and make friends with some new hams. This is an excellent opportunity to have an eyeball QSO with some of the AMSAT satellite designers and officers in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Last year's event was well attended with over 70 satellite enthusiasts at the party. No reservations needed, just show up and enjoy yourself and the good food.

Friday 16 May 2008

8:00 AM - Hamvention opens the flea market (a.k.a. outside vendors) and Forums.

9:00 AM - Inside exhibits. The Hara Arena complex closes at 6:00 PM.

A number of new offerings and Dayton Specials will be available at the AMSAT booth.

The enlarged AMSAT booth will include a display area with a working Software Defined Transponder (SDX) like the one that will be used on the SuitSat-2 satellite and summer Balloon launch. Bob Davis will have a full size Eagle spaceframe. In addition, other Eagle, SuitSat-2 modules and a cubesat will be on display. Principles involved in the design and development of this hardware will be available to discuss their projects with you.

An area outside the Ball Arena entrance will host live satellite demonstrations during the day, predominately in the mornings. There will be an "Introduction to Amateur Satellites" talk in the afternoon. Schedule is posted at the AMSAT booth and in the demonstration area.

The combined AMSAT/TAPR Banquet will be held Friday evening at the Kohler Presidental Banquet Center, 4548 Presidential Way, Kettering, OH [just south of Dayton]. The evening will begin with a cash bar happy hour at 6:30 PM. Dinner will be served at 7:15. The Banquet Center has a reputation for good food and service. Maps to the AMSAT/TAPR Banquet will be available at the AMSAT booth. The price for the dinner is $25.00 per person and includes a salad, entree, sides, desert, tax and gratuity. Coffee, tea and iced tea are included. Wine, beer and mixed drinks are available at the cash bar before and during the meal.

Reservations are required and must be made by Monday 12 May 2008. Please contact Martha, martha@amsat.org for reservations at the AMSAT office. You can call Martha at (301) 589-6062 from 10:00am to 6:00om EDT, or in the US (888) 322-6728. Presidents Club Gold members should let Martha know if they are attending the banquet.
